DDU removes bad Intel driver, Win 10 update puts it back...

Post by Axolotl »

Hi,
I have the situation that the latest release / build of Windows 10 Home on my PC has installed an updated Intel driver for the built-in Intel HD graphics card 530 which cause instant black screen.
Restart etc., has no effect.
I have successfully used DDU in safe mode to remove the offending driver, but sooner or later, Windows update puts it back, and I'm back to black screen.
I have tried the usual sort of stuff like getting latest drivers from Intel manually, but this has not solved the black screen problem.
Do you have any suggestions of things to try?
Windows 10 Home, v 1809 build 17763.316 (64 bit)
HP Pavilion desktop 550-253na with built-in Intel HD Graphics 530.
Latest failing driver is Intel Corp Display 02/25/19 25.20.100.6577
The one Microsoft update installs is 19/11/18 25.20.100.6446
Both produce the black screen as soon as they install.
Monitor (HDMI) is Samsung S22D300 with the latest Samsung driver I could find from c.2015.
Safe mode works with default MS VGA driver, and that works for normal mode until Windows update splats it.
Help!?
