DDU Broke my PC

Post by BorisS321 »

I
So basically DDU Broke and slowed down my PC.

I tried unistalling my driver with ddu, it worked. After that I tried installing the latest driver from nvidia and had to restart multiple times to apply the driver (which never happened before). When I started playing Fortnite I noticed i lost about 60 FPS and higher ping. I DDUed once again and installed my old driver, but when the driver was done installing, my screen would be black and I had to force reset my pc to fix it, and the driver would be installed, however, I still had low fps and high ping. I used a system restore point, and after the system restore point I got an error message saying "The restore point was completed but not succesfully". Than I got into fortnite and it seemed like the problem was fixed, but I had fps drops, so I tried using the same system restore point. I used the same system restore point and when It was done restoring I got a message saying it was completed succesfully. Right after that I tried launching fortnite when my pc just instantly shut down, and I wasnt able to boot Into windows. What should I do?

Hi,
It is impossible that DDU cause high pings. It doesn't interract with anything network related.
Your issue sounds like overheating.
A way to completely revert what DDU did is a windows refresh/re-install. Please also note that DDU doesn't interract with the hardware so if a Windows refresh is not fixing your issue, than the issue is your hardware from the start.
But honestly DDU is not known to break windows installation. Most if not all issue are usually present before DDU usage.
You can still send me your DDU logs at [email protected] so I can check if there is something that went wrong just in case.

Also, you could try another game just to be sure it's not an issue with fortnite server.

Hi
It's not an overheating Issue. My CPU usually stays at around 60 degrees when gaming, around 30 at idle,my GPU Is at around 75, and 30 at idle. Also this has never happened before, I have been using my PC with no problems for the past 3 years, until I downloaded DDU. I am currently factory resetting my PC from the Advanced Repair option because I can't even boot Into my Windows. Is there something I should do after the factory reset is done to make sure everything Is working as Intended? Why was I losing fps after the DDU?
Thanks

I cannot explain the fps lost as this is not something that happens to other.
What did you do to parent your pc from booting? It was working earlier even after a DDU use.
After your refresh you do what anyone would do after a fresh install, configuring driver and stuff. If you still have the issue then it is sure DDU was not the cause and the problem reside elsewhere.

After the DDU use and installed drivers, I used the system restore point made by DDU twice because the first time It said that It was done restoring but not succesfully. I'll consult with a pc specialist.
Thanks

I'm curious as to why some of you go to such great lengths to scrub the current driver off the rig.

Does the NVidia installer's "clean install" not do its job?

Is there really any harm from not using software like DDU, and just "dirty" installing?

DDU is not a requirement for driver update, it is a tool to help you when the driver update fail with NVIDIA installer/clean install.
I do not recommend to use it every time you update a driver especially for the casual user because there is always a risk as there is many registry / file based operations and system configuration differ from user to user.
Note that on a normal and healthy system there should be no issues. On my side I use it every time because It allow me to test it of course.
