Each time the game close, it will copy the save file to the 'latest' folder, and moving that latest file to the 'archives' folder (zipper and dated) when a new 'latest' is copied on next game close.
At least now, if a save file corruption happen, you will have a backup of a working save file in the 'archives' folder, loosing maybe an hour or so of gameplay instead of the whole character.
You can either use the App as a 'launcher' to start the game, or start it when the game is already running.
The app will automatically find the local Elden Ring save folder without having you to set up anything.
If your local Elden Ring folder happen to have multiple Steam ID, it will warn you and tell you to enter it in the the App manually.
