Hello,
because we were getting error messages like this (http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac11 ... x6ndko.png) and other crashes on every game we tried to start, we decided to do some troubleshooting.
We decided to reinstall the graphic- and audiodriver and used the latest DDU to clean and restart (first option).
But after the cleaning his graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 520) keeps getting displayed as Windows Basic Display Adapter. We can't install the correct graphic driver from the NVIDIA website, because Windows doesn't properly detect it as a NVIDIA hardware. What can we do?

You are probably not downloading the correct driver from nvidia.
The "Windows Basic Display Adapter" is the expected result after using DDU.
If needed , I could maybe help via a teamviewer session tomorrow.

We downloaded the driver from here: http://www.nvidia.de/Download/index.aspx?lang=eng
and choosed GeForce 500 Series for Windows 10 64-bit in german. Is that the wrong one?

We would really appreciate your help And as an audio driver we thought about to use realtek (it was NVIDIA too before).
Here in germany it's 5:30 AM right now, so a good time would be around 3 PM CET (9 hours and 30 minutes from when I wrote this post)

But I think even after reinstalling the drivers the original issue with the games crashing won't disappear, because even now with no driver installed (I know it won't play properly, but I wanted to test out if the primary error got fixed) those strange crashes keep happening. It only happens with games and after the crash the computer starts to behave strange: black spaces appear, strange sounds come out of the boxes and other applications/programs can't be started or used until we restart the computer. I know it has nothing to do with DDU, but maybe you have an idea about that, too.

Btw. In case you are wondering why I'm changing between using "we" and "I": It's because I try to help out a friend. He doesn't know much about computers besides browsing, skyping or playing little games, so I try to help him figuring out the issue although I'm not an expert either.

After reading issues you had I´m suspecting your friend´s GeForce GT 520 card is dying/faulty, that explains issues with drivers, games... etc. Don´t waste your time anymore testing that card in friend´s PC: test that GT 520 on your PC and if it acts same way probably it´s ready for junkyard.

One more thing you can try is to reflash appropriate BIOS (recommend do it in pure DOS enviroment with NVFlash for DOS: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2 ... 3-for-dos/ using command line: nvflash -4 -5 -6 BIOSNAME.ROM ) for that particular model of GT 520, visit TechPowerUp to search for appropriate BIOS:

One more question: is that GT 520 active cooled (fan + heatsink) or passive cooled (just heatsink)? If it´s passive cooled your friend should consider himself lucky for the fact that card lived so long (few years I guess) for as you mentioned "playing little games". From lots of years of experience on my back I know for sure that passive cooled graphic cards used for gaming are dying way more often compared to active cooled graphics cards.
