Dual AMD GPU

Hi everyone,
Thought I should address this fine forum with my issue: instability with freezing or restart of my system after having installed a second GPU.
And since this is the first time I’ve had 2 GPU’s, I’m on thin ice here with no previous knowledge. But, how hard can it be? Right?
I’m using a HP Z8G4 Workstation with dual Xeon and ECC memory and add on cards like Wi-Fi, Thunderbolt and NVME together with a AMD RX 6950 XT.
It has worked great with Windows 11 for Workstation using Adrenaline drivers. The PSU is plus 1000 and even with max TDP out of everything I got much power left. All drivers are updated to the latest versions available.
But since I’m thinking about using Proxmox for different VM’s I got hold of a AMD WX 7100 in order to use GPU pass through for a VM intended for testing of MacOS. But before doing that I installed the card and fired it up using Windows 11.
After installing both cards, some installing of drivers took place and then they both showed up in Adrenaline. And everything seemed to work.
But being away for a while I found that the system was shut down when getting back.
Checking the power profile, but no it looked as it should.
A couple of hours later it happened again. Weird.
Next I got the system to freeze when using the computer. Twice!
Ok, I got some problem going on.
So, I’m thinking that I either 1) got a driver issue or 2) that the “new” WX isn’t as it should be…
Everything looks and works okay but after a while I either get a freeze or hear that the computer has shutdown.
It’s a weird thing I think since I was able to try out a game (Starfield) for 2 hours and enjoying the immense better graphics from 6950 compared with the graphics on Xbox. But suddenly the system froze when I was shutting down other windows on my second monitor (connected to WX).
Nothing like these freezes or shutdown has ever happened before with only the RX card installed.
The system has been kinda bullet proof and that probably is the benefit of ECC that I never have tried out before.
Perhaps the “new” WX doesn’t like or is as compatible with Adrenaline drivers like I thought?
I.e. like my built in AMD GPU (AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory) on my trusted MacBook that isn’t compatible with later released drivers which results in odd problems (bootcampdrivers.com is a great source for graphics with Apple computers).
Maybe I should just use AMD Pro drivers instead?
Either way I thought I should ask you guys before using DDU and then trying to install a fresh Adrenaline again and/or using DDU and trying the Pro drivers instead of Adrenaline, changing card positions etcetera etcetera. The trouble shooting drill…
Of course I can or have to do that, but I thought I should try this forum and see if I can get some valuable tips or hints that can save me hours of trying things out and lengthy trouble shooting.
This should be the place where the most insight is to be found, right?!
I sure hope I get a reply.
Thanks for reading this. Cheers!
