In the DDU options, the last one, there is a settings that you can enable that say it will prevent updates. Try this one.Bennett wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:21 pm I’m dealing with an incredibly frustrating issue on Windows 10, and I hope someone out there has found a permanent fix. I need to use an older version of the NVIDIA driver to work with specific graphics software that requires it. However, no matter what I do, Windows 10 keeps automatically updating the driver to the latest version, disrupting my workflow completely.
I’ve tried multiple methods, but none of them seem to work in the long run:
- DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller): After using DDU to remove the driver and reinstall the older version, everything seems fine—until Windows forces an update after the next restart.
- O&O Shutup10: This tool includes an option to disable driver updates, but unfortunately, it had no effect in my case.
- Microsoft’s Show/Hide Updates Tool: I tried using this to block driver updates, but Windows still managed to install the latest version after a single restart.
This is driving me insane! Why does Microsoft force driver updates on users even when they have a legitimate reason to stick with an older version? Newer doesn’t always mean better, especially for professionals relying on software that requires stable, specific driver versions.
- Disabling Windows Update Services: I even went as far as completely disabling Windows Update, yet somehow, the system still installs the latest driver after a few hours—even without a reboot.
Has anyone found a way to COMPLETELY STOP Windows 10 from updating NVIDIA drivers permanently? If you have a workable solution, please share—it would be a lifesaver. Thanks!
Also with Microsoft’s Show/Hide Updates Tool , you should be good to go.
