DDU hangs when uninstalling GPU driver in Safe Mode Windows 11 – Has anyone encountered this?

Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a driver removal tool that can help you completely remove AMD (ATI), NVIDIA and Intel graphics drivers.

DDU hangs when uninstalling GPU driver in Safe Mode Windows 11 – Has anyone encountered this?

Post by starfish05 »

Hi everyone,
I am having trouble using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) on a Windows 11 computer. I booted into Safe Mode as instructed to ensure that the graphics card driver (NVIDIA) was completely uninstalled, but when I ran DDU, the software suddenly froze, became unresponsive, and I had to restart the computer.

I tried running it again several times, redownloaded the latest version from the homepage, and temporarily turned off antivirus, but the situation is still the same. I used DDU on Windows 10 before, and everything was fine. I don't know if it's because of compatibility with Windows 11 or if there are other errors.

Has anyone encountered a similar error on Windows 11 when using DDU? If so, how did you fix it to uninstall the driver cleanly and safely?

Thanks, everyone, in advance!

Hi,
Are you still able to drag / move the DDU window around ?
if so, hit the X when you think its frozen and it will create a log. Send theses logs to me (they are located within the DDU folder)
send them at [email protected]

Thank you so much for the quick response and detailed instructions! Yes, I can still drag and move the DDU window normally, just the buttons and functions inside are unresponsive. I will try closing with the X button as you suggested and check if the log is created.

Depending of the computer (especially some laptop with HDDs), it can take some time to finish. I suggest you let it run for a few minutes before attempting the X.
