AMD error 192 after using DDU 18.1.1.5

Post by el_arantis »

Dear DDU TEAM,

I use DDU many many years and never faced any problem.
Today I used this software in order to install new AMD Drivers 25.6.3
I always use it in safe mode. After restarting, when I tried to install drivers I got "Error 192 – AMD Software Installer Cannot Continue Due to an Operating System Issue".
https://www.amd.com/en/resources/suppor ... kb192.html

I thought that it would be a driver problem. I tried to install 25.6.2 drivers but the result was the same.
I used system restore and tried everything from the beginning but nothing changed.
Finally I restored my system once again and installed the newer driver without uninstalling the previous one, and everything worked normally.
Maybe there is a problem with the latest version of DDU. Hope you find and find the solution because you are really awesome.

Thank you in advance

With much respect

Hi,
Thanks for the report.

Can you zip me your DDU logs folder (located within DDU folder) and email it to me ? [email protected]
I'll look at this.

No problems, if you happen to try again (not forced). Ill be a taker for the logs.

I'll have my hand on more recent AMD card soon. Currently I only have a Polaris one and it doesn't work with recent driver.

If only AMD would cooperate.

The problem is not the driver that is going to be installed, but the "damage" that this version of DDU causes.
Not only any driver could be installed, but as I remember my pc was unstable and I did not had internet access (ethernet was of course connected). Moreover in the right low corner external devices did not appear. A mess. Very strange... So it must be something deeper. After system restore everything works perfect. Thank you once again.

On my side I have no problem at all with the latest version, and as you know I DDU quite a lot.
We didn't talk about your windows version. You are on windows 11? 24h2? Or insider?

As I cannot reproduce it is a bit hard to find the cause without a log.
So if you happen to run DDU again it would be great to have the logs. And if on top of that you remember he latest version that worked for you (and tested to work now too ) that would help.

Some way to generate a 192 error is when trying to install from safemode or when in normal mode , if windows update is also trying to update the driver it can happen.
Still curious about the weird "mess" you had too. Hard to explain. Guess it would be good to know if that happen everytime.

Best,

Based on this post, show me a screenshot oh the permissions of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE" show me the "Advanced" view.

Forgive me for the late reply. The same happened to a laptop that I own with AMD APU.
This time I saved the ddu folder (portable) which contains log files.
To both pcs I use W11 24H2 with all the updates installed and without having internet connected to avoid auto installation from WU.

How can I send you the file in order to try to understand what is probably wrong with all of this?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks, I'll give a look at this today and let you know if I find anything.
The previous computer that this happened was a desktop or laptop ?

Also can you verify in the registry if this location exist (when you have the 192 problem) :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot (especially if the "Option" subkey exist)

If this "Option" key exist, remove it and reboot and see if it work.

Also I have released today 18.1.3.1 with some AMD addition and a fix related to the "SafeBoot" thing that was producing an error 192 on my side. So maybe it will fix it for you too.
Let me know if you try it again in the future.
Best,
