Hi everyone,
I’m planning to update my GPU driver soon and want to avoid carrying over problems from the previous installation. I’ve seen that DDU is commonly used when a clean driver removal is needed, especially when changing GPU drivers or troubleshooting display issues.
For those who regularly use DDU, what is your usual workflow before installing a fresh NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel driver?
Do you normally use Safe Mode every time, and are there any settings or precautions that you recommend for someone doing a clean installation for the first time?
I’d also be interested to hear whether anyone noticed improvements after using DDU compared with simply uninstalling the driver normally through Windows.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Best way to prepare for a clean GPU driver installation?

Re: Best way to prepare for a clean GPU driver installation?
I usually keep DDU as a troubleshooting/clean-install tool rather than using it for every driver update. Before running it, I’d download the new driver beforehand, create a restore point, and make sure I have anything needed for the GPU software ready. Safe Mode is generally the way to go when using DDU, since it helps avoid the old driver being active during removal. After rebooting, I’d install the fresh driver normally and check Device Manager and GPU settings afterward.
