Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V18.1.6.2 Released.

Post by Wagnard »

Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V18.1.6.2 Released.

Requirement:

-Windows 7 up to Windows 11
-NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Qualcomm, Lisuan GPUs
-Also support basic Realtek audio driver cleanup.
-Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or higher

Changelog:

Windows on Arm

- NVIDIA RTX Spark ready, with a few more of its driver files and a
service removed.

AMD

- More leftover driver files, folders and registry entries are
removed, and the renamed AMD User Experience Program is detected
again.

Monitors

- Removing the monitors now also resets each screen's saved display
scale and, on laptops, the built-in screen's cached details. This
fixes text and icons that stay too large or too small even after a
clean driver reinstall.

Other

- The launch window grows with its text, so longer translations are
no longer cut off.

Languages

- Hungarian updated.

Known issues:
-

- (NOT A DDU ISSUE) With Windows 11 24H2, your PIN may not work in Safe Mode.
Make sure you know your password and also check the following setting:

Go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options
Under Additional settings, turn off "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device"

Important: You must use your password at least once in normal mode before it will work in Safe Mode.

Important (BitLocker): If you have BitLocker encryption enabled, ensure you have your Recovery Key handy before rebooting into Safe Mode. In some cases, Windows may requested it.

Recommended usage:

-You MUST disconnect your internet or completely block Windows Update when running DDU until you have re-installed your new drivers.
-If your system use BitLocker , PLEASE have your BitLocker recovery key nearby because your system may ask for it.
-DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling / installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
-DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
-DDU will not work on network drive or on a OneDrive location. Please install in a local drive (C:, D: or else).
-The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
-If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
-Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
-It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.
Note: If you have issues for downloading the file, it could be one of your extension interfering with our hotlink protection.

Hello Wagnard, thank you for the update and for adding more AMD clean-up stuff.

For some time now, and still present with DDU v18.1.6.2, I have noticed the following AMD Adrenalin leftover:

Code: Select all

C:\AMD\Chipset_Software\Logs\Chipset_Dll.log
Maybe you can add it to the next release. Best!

Ok, I understand it.

However, from the "C:\AMD" folder, and after DDU, "C:\AMD\AMDSoftwareInstaller_DIME_Chipset" & "C:\AMD\Chipset_Installer" are actually removed.

That "C:\AMD\Chipset_Software\Logs\Chipset_Dll.log" leftover has only a .log file. Deleting it manually after DDU and before installing the driver seems absolutely safe on my end. Also, those "Chipset" folders are always (re)installed when installing Adrenalin. Anyway, if you consider touching that .log leftover unsafe, I trust you.

You could tick the option to remove the c:\amd . It will take care of that, but not sure if this can cause problem for the chipset.

The thing is, I have that setting ticked (remove the c:\amd), but the mentioned leftover ("C:\AMD\Chipset_Software\Logs\Chipset_Dll.log") always remains. The other folders are removed fine.

I cannot say if removing it may cause any issues for systems with an AMD Chipset, as I have an Intel Chipset (Z690, i9-12900K). On my end, manually removing it seems pretty safe.

Can you verify in the DDU logs or sendnit to me so we can see if DDU actually removed the folder or failed for whatever reason.

Hi Wagnard,

Thanks for your awesome work on DDU!

I noticed that since v18.1.6.2, monitor cleanup automatically resets saved Windows display scaling. I get that it helps fix scaling bugs, but for those of us using custom scaling (like 125% or 150%) or multi-monitor setups, having to reconfigure it every time is a bit annoying.

Could you add a checkbox in the Options menu to make the display scale reset optional? That way we could clean up ghost monitors without losing our UI settings.

Thanks for considering this!

This can be avoided by unticking the remove monitor option

Thanks for the reply, Wagnard!

The thing is, I still want to use the "remove monitors" feature to clear out old ghost monitors I just don't want it to reset my Windows display scaling at the same time.

That's why having a separate option to toggle the scaling reset on/off during monitor cleanup would be awesome.
